Danish Le Mans pilot, Casper Elgaard, claimed a double Group C triumph at the Nuerburgring's Jan Wellum Pokal historic meeting. Aboard the Porsche Kremer Racing 962CK6, Elgaard duelled with BRDC Rising Star, Simon Pullan, in a similar short tail car on each day.

Race 1 saw David Mercer (Spice-Ford SE90C) chase the lead pair hard after a cracked exhaust hampered his qualifying efforts. Ingestion of part of the foam air filter left the Cosworth down on power after 15 minutes, leaving him to settle for a distant third. An engine fire forced retirement from the same position on Sunday.

A marvellous three-way scrap for fourth entertained the crowds. Michael Schuster (Argo-Judd JM19C) led Jim Mullen (Spice-Chevrolet GTP) from Brian DeVries (Chevrolet Intrepid RM-1) in the early stages. The half distance mark sparked change when DeVries dived by Mullen, then Schuster, in quick succession at Turn 1. Mullen succeeded in taking Schuster, but a rare spin dropped him back to sixth at the flag. A broken gear linkage forced Mullen into retirement in Race 2.

Nigel James' long tail Porsche 962C was not suited to the twisty nature of the modern Formula One circuit. Following a frustrating seventh, he decided not to run on Sunday. John Grant (Chevron B19) took duel Invitation class honours with eighth and fifth respectively.

Drama was afoot before Race 2 had even begun. Five cars failed to take their start positions; caught out at pit exit, when electing to complete a second warm-up lap. Front-runners, Elgaard, DeVries, and Schuster were amongst these. All chased hard; their efforts yielding first, third, and fourth respectively.

Nick Rini (Jaguar XJR-12D) and Michael Millard (Prosport-Ford LM3000) battled closely in Race 1 but, by Sunday, Rini had wound up the Jaguar V12 and forged clear to take sixth from Millard's seventh. Jim Graham (Porsche 962C) changed to a different Motronic chip for Sunday's race, but a constant misfire troubled his progress. He took eighth to add to twelfth from Race 1.

Duncan McKay and Robin Ward were elated with the excellent progress made with McKay's Bardon-Ford. Not having run a completely trouble-free session before the weekend, they brought the car home to class wins on each day. Richard Bateman (Tiga-Rover GC287) took runner-up spot.

John Edwards continued his excellent progress in learning his Argo-Ford JM19C. He claimed two class wins, to add to the one from Le Mans. Edwards' class rival Jean-Yves Moine (Spice-Cosworth SE88C) never overcame a variety of electrical gremlins, which forced retirement on both days.

Phillipp Brunn entertained the crowds with some spirited driving en route to second and third in class aboard the Brunn Racing Porsche 908/3. His father, Siggi, was not as fortunate. His Sauber C5 suffered engine damage in Saturday's race, but he kept smiling during, what was, a very friendly weekend for all concerned.
