Questionnaire and Club Meeting on Saturday 10th December
2005 |
|
|
|
We are holding the Club meeting
at The White Horse in Silverstone village at 11.30am on Saturday 10th December,
finishing before 2pm.
In order to
make the meeting as constructive as possible we would ask you to complete the
QUESTIONNAIRE by
clicking
here. Members and prospective members are encouraged to
complete.
Note: We know of two people in 2004 who missed one or
two questions and were prompted to complete these items but, when they went
back to the page the answers they had already ticked had disappeared. This was
probably a conflict in their browser and thus they can use
this
second link which contains javascript to try and overcome the problem.
(99.9% of people will have javascript enabled by default on their browser). We
are aware that there are some bugs in Internet Explorer which we cannot
predict!

Silverstone Club meeting on Saturday 10th December 2005 and the
Club AGM and Dinner/Dance on Friday 24th February 2006 at the Stratford on Avon Moathouse Hotel |
|
|
|
Silverstone Club meeting
- This will be held on Saturday 10th December at the White Horse pub in
Silverstone village starting at 11.30am and finishing before 2pm, allowing
people to purchase food and drink. Members should e-mail the Club with any
particular subject matter, but we will deal with such items as race programme,
finances, car eligibility, safety issues and so on. Prospective members are of
course very welcome to attend but please let the office know one way or the
other.
As in 2005 we are
exhibiting at the Historic Motorsport Show at Stoneleigh, near Leamington Spa,
and at the end of the first day, Friday 24th February 2006, we shall be
holding the AGM, for club members only, starting at 6pm. This will be
followed by the dinner/dance and we hope to have Don Law's Roadrunner
band. As previous attendees will know this is an informal but smart and fun
evening, and order forms will be e-mailed to everyone in a few weeks time.
Please make a date in your diary now!

Andy Wallace tests with Group C/GTP Racing !
|
|
|
|
As part of our winter publicity
programme with Motorsport magazine we organised a test day for Andy Wallace to
try three very different C1 cars, specifically for an article in the February
2006 issue of Motorsport plus the opportunity for him to try a C2 and a GTP
Argo for our own story purposes.
Thanks go to the car owners, David Mercer, Nick Rini, Penny
Graham, Richard Oddie and John Edwards and a big thank you to Donington Park
and Sunoco Race Fuels for their help in supporting the event. A special thank
you to the respective preparation companies, Phil Stott Motorsport, Don Law
Racing, Hepworth International, Weylock Racing and ISL
Motorsport.
Particular thanks are
due to Andy Wallace for the easy and enjoyable manner in which he helped
with the day and, not the least, his great sense of humour. You will see from
the photos below that Donington Park was minus the garages and control tower
which are now being replaced by a modern stylish set-up ready for
2006.
|
|
|
This is the view looking towards Redgate and you can
see that everything up to the fairly new paddock suite has been flattened ready
for the new garages and control tower. |
|
Despite warnings to the contrary we were pleasantly
surprised, if not amazed, to discover that Donington had erected two large
tents for testers. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Organising the day! Andy Wallace and Richard Heseltine
(R) - Motorsport Features Editor, get their instructions for the day from 'the
ancient one'. |
|
Being too early in the day (10am) for Justin, Andy
Wallace warmed up Nick Rini's XJR12 and, being very familiar with these Jaguars
enjoyed himself enormously. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
David Mercer warmed up the car (if not the tyres) and
Andy Wallace soon got the hang of the Spice and, despite a very cold track, was
soon in the 1:03's. |
|
Amazingly Andy had never driven a Porsche 962 but
proceeded to do 4 or 5 laps in order to get a good feel of the car for the
Motorsport article. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Alas soon after John Edwards warmed up the Texas Argo,
the gear box gremlins returned and all drive was lost. A disappointment for
John but a great effort. |
|
Great to see Mike Jankowski and Jamie Campbell-Walter
shaking down Mike's Courage. Many congratulations to Mike and his LMES Team for
a fantastic season. We know this is Motorsport but Creation Autosportif were
unlucky not to win overall. |
|
|
|
|
|
Those of you with keen eye sight
will be able to get a good idea of the new Donington buildings from the above
photograph. To learn more about it go to http://www.donington-park.co.uk/news/story.asp?file=051019 |

NEW Club Clothing
|
|
|
|
Specially tailored for people
who are allergic to white (!), we now have dark blue T-shirts which may well
appeal to many of the race engineers. They are also being supplied in ladies
style/sizes.
Also new are ladies
and mens 'Oxford' shirts with a very discreet Club logo in the 'same' colour
thread as the shirt material. These will appeal to people who would like to
support the Club by buying smart clothing that is not overtly branded, making
it ideal for post-race socialising. These are available in blue or white for
men and blue for ladies.

Official fuel supplier to Group C/GTP
Racing
We are delighted to
confirm that the Anglo American Oil Company, suppliers of Sunoco & R racing
fuels, have recently been appointed as the official fuel supplier
(non-exclusive).
Although most of
you will be thinking of fuel only, many will be pleased to see that this
company also supplies very high quality racing lubricants and brake fluids at
competitive prices.
This new
arrangement ensures that members requiring fuels to be delivered to the race
events can benefit from a free of charge delivery service. Please note that one
or two of the fuels are offered at a special price.
In addition, we now expect the Anglo American Oil
Company to have a support vehicle at the Brands Hatch, Silverstone and
Donington race meetings.
For
detailed information on their products and services please go to their website
www.aaoil.co.uk
For more specific prices and a Group C/GTP Racing
order form, please contact the Club at

Second race of the new season at
Nurburgring, 24/26 June 2005
Three more 'New' cars join the growing total for Group C/GTP Racing
and two that had planned to race at Monza but did not 'make the
cut'!
Porsche 962 - Klaus Frers
The car started life in January 1988 as Chassis
962.132 with Team Nova (semi works team in Japan). Drivers in 1988 were H.
Okada and S. Dickens. The car number was 27, with 'From A' livery. They won the
Japanese Championship for sports cars (drivers and makes). |
|
|
Klaus
Frers bought the car in October 2004 and shipped it back to Germany and has
completely stripped and rebuilt it for Nurburgring 2005.
The following two Porsches have just returned from
their final test session at Anderstorp and are now being race prepped for
Nurburgring.
Porsche 935K3 - Thomas Henrysson
The car will be driven by
Thomas Henrysson, well known Swedish Historic Racer, including Lotus models, in
Europe. |
|
|
Porsche 962 CK-10 - Jenna
Brorsson
The 962 is to be
driven by Swedish lady racer, Jenna Brorsson, who has competed successfully in
the Swedish Carrera Cup and came 7th overall in 2004. As was the Porsche 935
above, this car was built by the Kremer brothers in 1991. |
|
|
Both
cars have been totally dismantled and rebuilt with full crack testing
throughout to comply with Group C/GTP Racing's Sporting Code. The cars are
being entered by Porsche enthusiast, Claes Wahlund from Sweden and run by
Autoart Motorsport.
Martyn Eyre - Gebhardt 3.5
Cosworth
Having missed Monza,
Martyn is joining us in the very unusual Gebhardt 3.5 Cosworth DFR. The car,
which will be run in Momo colours, is thought to be the one that ran in 1992,
which raced in WSC at Silverstone driven by Frank Kramer and Almo Copelli but
failed to finish. |
|
|
However,
and more significantly, it came fourth at Monza the same year with the same
drivers.
Chris Crawford of ADA
and Group C fame (ADA made several of the critical components on the Gebhardt
cars) said "the car was beautifully made, being designed for long distance
events, not sprint races, so it was inevitably a little bit heavy".
Martyn Eyre is looking forward to
the more gentlemanly race craft of the competitive owner-drivers in Group C/GTP
racing, having had an 'exciting' time in the Radical Enduros in the last two
years.
Janine Payne - Porsche 962
Initial bodywork problems in
testing at Monza resulted in the car NOT racing at Monza, so this will be the
first time out with Group C/GTP Racing. Janine Payne is hoping to run with
Group C/GTP racing in at least 3 of the 2005 events and is now the Number one
driver for this car in 2005, although also hoping to race Richard Eyre's Jaguar
XJR16 later in the season. |

As
Richard Eyre's Jaguar XJR16 will not be ready, he will share with Janine
(partner) in this, the 2nd race of the Group C/GTP Racing season.
This Porsche 962 is believed to a
1987 Kremer car, which took part in Interserie races in 87/88 and it is
understood to have been taken to Japan in 1990. Indeed many of the key parts
are stamped with the Kremer markings. The car is painted in Leyton House
colours. It has the later all water cooled engine introduced in 1989 and is
expected to be very competitive in Janine's hands.

A great relief that none of
the Monza runners 'fell off'!
